In a bold move to enhance governance efficiency and foster unity among top officials, the Nasarawa State Government successfully concluded its transformative 3-day retreat, organized in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).
Held under the theme "Building Strategic Relationships for Effective Governance," the retreat brought together political office holders, commissioners, and top government functionaries to refine their leadership skills and align with Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s vision for a more cohesive and result-driven administration.
The retreat, facilitated by renowned governance expert and a son of the soil Dr. Murtala Adogi Mohammed, Founder/CEO of System Strategy & Policy Lab (SSPL), provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, strategy development, and team bonding.
In his opening remarks, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Labaran Shuiabu Magaji (Matawallen Toto), emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the state’s development agenda. While Dr. L.M. Tijjani, representing ASCON’s Director-General, reinforced the need for continuous capacity-building in public service.
A communique presentation by the Class Leader, Princess Margret I. Elayo, Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, outlining actionable strategies for improved governance.
Goodwill messages from distinguished leaders, including former Bauchi State Gov. M.A. Abubakar, SAN, and Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, who commended Nasarawa’s commitment to excellence.
The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, FNSE, FNMGS, closed the event by presenting certificates to delegates and mandate cards to commissioners, a symbolic gesture reinforcing their commitment to delivering on the state’s priorities.
In his closing address, Governor Sule urged participants to "translate lessons into tangible results" for the people of Nasarawa, stressing that "strong relationships and teamwork are the bedrock of sustainable development."
As delegates departed with renewed vigor, Dr. Murtala Adogi Mohammed expressed optimism, stating: "This retreat has laid a foundation for stronger governance structures. At SSPL, we remain dedicated to supporting Nasarawa State in its reform journey."
With the skills acquired and networks strengthened, Nasarawa’s leaders are now better equipped to drive policies that will transform the state, proving that when governance is built on trust, strategy, and collaboration, the people truly win.
